MAN Diesel

MAN Diesel is propelled into paperless processes

MAN Diesel & Turbo SE, based in Augsburg, Germany, is the world’s leading provider of large-bore diesel engines and turbomachinery for marine and stationary applications. MAN Diesel & Turbo’s range of goods includes complete marine propulsion systems, turbomachinery units for the oil & gas as well as the process industries and complete power plant solutions.

MAN Diesel approached us to help move their stocks from their old warehouse into a new state of the art storage facility, whilst continuing to ship from both warehouses until the transfer was complete. They also wanted stop using paper based processes and replace them with radio frequency (RF) scanners and mobile printers.

We started by analysing the two warehouses and realised the main challenge was to move stocks from the old carousel storage into new the carousels. We needed to design and develop a custom solution that enabled transferred materials to be uploaded en masse to the correct destination.

For the stock stored in other types of storage we implemented the Bin to Bin app from our app library to enable a fast and efficient transfer of stock.

The RF scanners and mobile printers improved the accuracy and efficiency of MAN Diesel’s putaway, pick and pack functions. And, it allowed Man Diesel to make optimal use of serial number tracking, a key requirement for their business.

Result was a seamless transfer of stock allowing MAN Diesel to continue to satisfy their customers while the move was in progress. And, an improvement in process efficiency and tracking once the move was complete.
